About Best Crate Cover
Best Crate Cover is a reader-supported review site focused on one thing: dog crate covers. The right cover for a wire crate is a different problem from the right cover for an airline-approved plastic kennel — and neither of those is what you want over a soft-sided travel carrier. We organize the whole space by the crate the cover has to fit, so the buying decision starts where it should: with your crate.
How we work
We test on real crates, with real dogs
Every cover we review is fit-tested against an actual crate, not a spec sheet. The measurements that matter — door clearance, ventilation panel lineup, top-tray sag under a folded blanket — only show up when the cover is on a crate that's in a house being used by a real dog. Our testers are Teddy (a sister's 8-month-old chocolate lab, still learning that the crate is a den and not a prison), and Bailey (a neighbor's 4-year-old golden, calm and crate-trained — the control case). Each fit test runs at least one overnight cycle.
The official skeptic
Our editorial program is overseen by Mr. Walnut Tortellini, a 7-year-old leopard tortoise who pre-dates the site, the brand, and the family's first child by approximately two weeks. Mr T does not test crate covers personally (the use case is limited). His role is editorial: he observes, judges, and is unimpressed by marketing language. If a product passes Teddy and Bailey's actual fit testing but lands in our "skip" pile, it is generally because Mr T objected to the brand's pricing.
We disclose how we make money
Many of our outbound links are affiliate links — when you buy through them, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how the site stays free to read. Read our full affiliate disclosure for the details. We do not accept payment for favorable rankings, and commission rates don't change which products we recommend.
We say when a cover doesn't matter
A common pattern in this space is to recommend the most expensive option in every article. That isn't how we think. There are plenty of categories where a $30 polyester cover does the job a $200 designer cover claims to, and we'll say so when it's true. Sometimes the right answer is "you don't need a cover for this crate at all" — we'll say that too.
Who we are
Best Crate Cover is operated by Sidtech, an independent sole proprietorship based in the United States. We're not part of a publisher network, we're not VC-backed, and we don't accept brand sponsorships for editorial content. We're a small operation with strong opinions about crate covers, a tortoise with a long memory, and two dogs who put up with our measurement gear.
Articles are published under "COV Editorial Team" while we lock down a formal byline policy. The team is real; the byline is collective for now.
Sister site
We're the cover-focused spoke of a small portfolio. If you're shopping for the crate itself (not just the cover that goes over it), our sister site Best Pet Crate covers the wire crates, plastic kennels, soft-sided carriers, furniture-style crates, and heavy-duty containment options we test against here.
