A "36-inch" cover is a size class, not a promise the hem lands on your frame. Wire crates are often shorter inside than the number on the box, and a double-door model needs the flap cut for the door you actually open. Measure the exterior length, width, and height, then check latch clearance with the door half open.

A cover can reduce visual noise. It does not crate-train the dog. If the room is warm, leave ventilation flaps open — a sealed polyester shell holds heat. Can I put a cover on a Sky Kennel for the car or a flight?

Should I cover a furniture-style crate?

Can I machine-wash the cover? It smells / it shrank.

Read the fabric before the cycle. A mid-weight polyester training cover is often machine wash and dry. Heavy canvas and some outdoor nylons are spot-clean or hang-dry, and a hot dryer is how those shrink or felt. If the cover was already the wrong size, washing will not create door clearance that was never there.
